John Leacock the first owner indeed was one of the initiatores of Madeira wine commerce between the Island and the UK. Since the mid of the 18th century the property belonged to the Leacock Family and the brand still today remains as a prestigious brand for Madeira Wine. Due to its exceptional location the family was convinced by an architect friend to build a unique design hotel on the Island, perfectly integrated in the landscape which first opened its doors in 1998 and is a Small Luxury Hotel since 2003.
